Banda Education Festival 2017
Hatta Island is the name of a village and island in Banda District, Central Maluku Regency. This year, Hatta Island, located approximately 25 km east of the Banda Islands, was the target of the second Banda Education Festival, following the previous year’s event in Banda Neira.
The Hatta Education Festival focused on involving all Hatta children, teachers, village government officials, and parents in promoting the improvement of the quality of education for Hatta children. Hatta Island houses one early childhood education center (PAUD), two elementary schools and an Islamic elementary school (Madrasah Ibtidaiyah), and one junior high school (SMP). The number of schoolchildren in Hatta is not as large as in Neira. Approximately 140 children participated in the festival. However, they were very enthusiastic about the Hatta Education Festival.
The Hatta Education Festival took place from October 22–28, 2017, with several activities: Public Speaking for Teachers and Students, Active Citizens, Outreach: Weather, Earthquakes, and Tsunamis, Early Childhood Education Management, Let’s Share Art, Educational Discussion: Education as a Joint Movement, English for Fun, Creative Learning Video Making Workshop, Sex Education and Anti-Bullying, Science Learning, Arts Festival, and Tab Learning.
The success of the Hatta and Sjahrir Education Festival was the result of collaboration between Heka Leka and various supporting parties, including the Banda Neira Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Class of 03 Alumni, Samsung, the British Council, Heka Leka friends from outside Maluku, community activists participating in Active Citizens, and the Hatta community. In addition to Hatta Island, Sjahrir Island also served as the location for the Banda Education Festival. Sjahrir Island has only one elementary school and a population of approximately 20 families.
The Education Festival on Sjahrir Island took place on October 24, 2017, featuring several activities, including storytelling with Santi Maruto, a socialization session on Weather, Earthquakes, and Tsunamis, Tab Learning, and English for Fun. Heka Leka also donated books and creative learning videos, which were then uploaded to flash drives.
Thank you for your support and participation.
We hope that in the future, there will be more collaborations to improve the quality of education in Maluku.
Greetings, Smart Maluku!
