Ways to contribute to Heka Leka
At Heka Leka, every contribution makes a difference. Whether you want to give your time, skills, resources, or support in other ways, there are several meaningful ways to get involved. By participating in one of our activities, you’re helping us continue our mission of advancing education in Maluku.
Help fund our programs
Your financial support can help us provide training, resources, and opportunities for children and youth in Maluku. Every contribution counts.
For Fiscal Years 2025 and 2026, the majority of the public funds we raise will be used to fund our goal of building 100 libraries in public elementary schools on Haruku Island, Saparua, Nusalaut, and the Banda Islands.
Become a “Malessy” for education
Malessy in Maluku tradition means warrior. Therefore, in Heka Leka, we refer to everyone actively involved, whether as a teacher, volunteer, or staff member, as an educational Malessy. Your expertise can make a significant difference.
We are always looking for support in various forms, whether as staff or volunteers, online or offline, and for projects ranging from one-week to annual contracts.
While not all positions require direct work in Maluku, for those interested, here are some testimonials from other Malesy friends:
Take part in tourism that has an impact
Shareveling: Impactful Tourism, Meaningful Journeys
If you’re already thinking of going to Maluku for tourism, why not contribute and share your expertise with here? Heka Leka can help design group travel packages, ranging from 3 days to 2 weeks, through the Shareveling program.
As part of your trip, you’ll have the opportunity to volunteer at one of the local educational foundations within the Heka Leka network. Typical volunteer work include simple teaching activities (teaching English, arts, etc.) or short projects tailored to the foundation’s needs and the volunteer’s skills (organizing book donations from your hometown, helping create content for the foundation’s marketing needs, etc.).
We hope that by seeing the conditions in Maluku for yourself, you’ll be inspired to get involved with our efforts in the future.
