NEW: Heka Leka’s Literacy Boat and Four Additional Libraries in Saparua
On December 8, 2025, Maluku Governor Hendrik Lewerissa inaugurated two critical assets for the Heka Leka Foundation’s operations: our Literacy Boat and four Child-Friendly Libraries on Saparua Island. This additional asset represents a strategic step to strengthen the existing educational infrastructure.
The Literacy Ship, a CSR donation by PT Karya Abadi Yamaha Marine officially handed to us on December 3rd, will serve as the primary means of transportation to support all Heka Leka operations in the Lease Islands region. This ship will allow for more efficient team mobility and distribution of program materials between islands. In addition to supporting our internal agenda to further expand our library network in the Lease Islands, the ship is also available for charter by other organizations or institutions with goals aligned with Heka Leka. All revenue from this charter service will be reallocated to fund operational costs and the sustainability of our educational programs.

Meanwhile, inauguration of four new Child-Friendly Libraries is a direct expansion of the Heka Leka literacy program already running in several elementary schools in Saparua. The addition of these libraries aims to ensure our literacy program reaches more children in various villages in Saparua. We are focused on providing consistent access so that the impact of the Heka Leka literacy curriculum can be measured widely.

We would like to express our appreciation to the Maluku Provincial Government and PT Karya Abadi Yamaha Marine for this collaboration. With stronger logistical support and a broader program reach, we are committed to continuously improving the quality of education in Maluku.
