Portrait of Education in Eastern Indonesia

Hatta Island is a village and island in Banda District, Central Maluku Regency, Maluku Province, Indonesia. The island is located approximately 25 km east of the Banda Islands. Hatta Island’s former name was Rozengain Island, named after Mohammad Hatta, one of Indonesia’s proclaimer of independence. Currently, there are only two small settlements on Hatta Island, lacking adequate facilities.

Educational facilities on Hatta Island include two elementary schools: SD Negeri Pulau Hatta and MIN Pulau Hatta, and one junior high school, SMP Negeri 9 SATAP Banda.

These schools are not well-equipped with other supporting facilities, and the number of teachers is very limited. Due to the limited number of teachers, a combined class system is still used to support the teaching and learning process.

In addition to inadequate educational facilities, Hatta Island also lacks access to public electricity and health services. This situation forces the entire community of Hatta Island to struggle to build their future.

Hopefully, improvements will continue to be made in the future to further improve Hatta Island.

Greetings from Smart Maluku.
