Heka Leka and The Central Maluku Education Office Strengthen Collaboration for Island Literacy

Central Maluku, April 8, 2026

Heka Leka’s ongoing efforts to promote literacy across island regions continue to show meaningful progress. Through well-established communication and collaboration, the partnership with the Central Maluku Regency Government is now entering a stronger and more structured phase.

The second official meeting with the Central Maluku Education Office, led by Head of the Education Office Husein Mukadar, S.IP., M.AP., marked an important milestone in strengthening a shared direction toward building a literacy ecosystem that is relevant to the realities of island communities.

So far, 18 Child-Friendly Libraries have been established in Saparua out of a total of 40 elementary schools. This achievement also highlights several challenges in the field, including limited library spaces, the absence of librarians, and the sustainability of book procurement, all of which have become shared concerns.

The Central Maluku Education Office expressed its appreciation for Heka Leka’s contribution.

“The presence of Heka Leka helps us ensure that educational programs reach the right targets,” said Husein Mukadar, Head of the Central Maluku Education Office, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the sustainability of literacy programs in island areas.

Heka Leka reaffirmed its vision to build 100 Child-Friendly Libraries across Maluku as part of a community-based literacy movement. This initiative places collaboration between communities, institutions, and government at the center of creating sustainable impact.

As a follow-up step, both parties agreed to strengthen their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Maluku Regional Government, serving as a foundation to expand literacy impact in a more systematic and sustainable way.

From island to island, literacy continues to grow.
And collaboration remains the path toward creating wider impact.
